Tour Highlights

Danjo Garan
Garan was where various temples were built at the time Koyasan was founded and it is one of the two most sacred sites of Koyasan alongside Okunoin.

Okunoin
Okunoni is the most sacred site for Daishi-worshippers. It houses the mausoleum of Kobo Daishi, and the pure stream of the famous River Tamagawa cleanses the souls of worshippers.

The Great Gate
The main front gate to Koyasan.
The present structure was built in 1705. The guardians of Buddha on both sides (Agyo and Ungyo) were created by sculptures named Koi and Uncho in the Edo Period.

Kongobuji Temple
Kongobuji Temple is the collective name of Koyasan. It is known throughout Japan as the headquarters of the Koyasan Shingon sect of Buddhism, with over 4,000 temples and ten million believers.
